The term “foursquare” was common in the early 1900’s and referred to something or someone as being “solid” and “balanced.” It was during this time that God called Aimee Semple McPherson to preach what she called the “foursquare gospel.” Her evangelistic meetings led to a movement which became the “International Church of the Foursquare Gospel” in December 1927. To this day, the message remains a simple, four-point declaration of Jesus as:
· SAVIOR
· HEALER
· BAPTIZER WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT
· SOON-COMING KING
Today there are more than 1,900 churches in the United States, and the denomination reaches more than 148 counties serving more than two million people worldwide.
